Altuglas™ Acrylic Cast Sheets by Trinseo

Altuglas™ Acrylic Cast Sheets by Trinseo are premium-grade, nanostructured PMMA panels designed to push the boundaries of transparent polymers. Through a proprietary nano-scale chaining process, these sheets achieve:

  • Exceptional Optical Clarity: Up to 92% light transmission, minimal haze (<0.2%), and a high-gloss finish that enhances color fidelity.
  • High Mechanical Strength: Tensile strength ≥ 70 MPa, flexural strength ≥ 110 MPa, and Shore D hardness ≥ 75 for robust impact resistance.
  • Outstanding Chemical Resistance: Resists aggressive agents like acetone and alcohols without surface crazing.
  • Thermal Stability: Operates reliably between –40 °C to +80 °C with a glass transition temperature around 105 °C.
  • UV Durability: Proprietary UV inhibitors deliver 5+ years of outdoor clarity without yellowing.

Advanced Nanostructure Technology

Unlike conventional cast PMMA, Altuglas™ sheets incorporate a nano-scale molecular network that strengthens inter-chain bonding. This results in enhanced durability, superior weatherability, and a uniform, low-stress panel ideal for both indoor and outdoor environments.

Key Features & Benefits

  • Precision Fabrication: Flatness tolerance ±0.3 mm/m ensures reliable assembly and laminating results.
  • Flame Classification: UL94 HB rated for fire safety in building and automotive applications.
  • Custom Coatings: Optional scratch-resistant, anti-reflective, or anti-graffiti surface treatments available.
  • Thermoformable Film: Two-sided clear film variant for deep-draw and complex thermoforming processes.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I thermoform Altuglas™ sheets into complex shapes?

Yes, preheat sheets uniformly at 140–160 °C, form over precision molds, and cool gradually to minimize internal stress and preserve optical clarity.

What adhesives ensure strong, transparent bonds?

Use Trinseo-recommended solvent-based acrylic cements or two-component MS-Polymer adhesives. Follow guidelines for joint gap and cure time to achieve optical-grade seams.

How do I maintain surface quality over time?

Clean regularly with mild soap and water or specialty acrylic cleaners. Avoid ammonia-based products and abrasive pads. For fine scratches, apply a compatible acrylic polish and buff gently.
